Old-Time Country Music with Tim Foss
These three class sessions will provide a basic understanding of old-time American music and how fun and easy it is to play with others with little skill required. Using the common string band instruments—fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and upright bass—we will learn how to back up fiddle tunes in 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 time signatures. All instruments listed are welcome and you should be able to play most first position fretted major chords—E, A, D, G, C, and F—on the fretted instruments. Fiddle players should know their A, G, C, and D major scales with a grasp on a couple bowing patterns. Basic music theory, tuning, ear training, string replacement, and proper care of your instrument will also be discussed. Level: Beginning/Intermediate.
