Hunt for Food: Turkey

This weekend-long course is designed for adults interested in hunting but with little or experience. We will work on the following skills/knowledge: basic turkey biology, conservation funding, learning to scout, and shooting a shotgun. On Saturday evening and Sunday morning, students will hunt in the company of an experienced mentor. Sunday afternoon will be spent learning how clean and prepare wild turkeys for the table. Meals and lodging provided. Friday evening will be a wild game potluck.

Special instructions: To register for this course, please do the following:
 Go to https://gowild.wi.gov/
 Click on green “Get Started”
 Sign in using Customer ID number, DOB, and last 4 of SSN (if you don’t have a
customer ID number you will need to first create one)
 Make edits (or not) if necessary
 Once on your “Homepage” go to the Safety Education section (right hand side)
and select “enroll”
 For Course Type, select “Hunt for Food” and for County select “Vernon”
 That should bring up both classes and they both have online enrollment so just
click the “Enroll” button to generate your name on the roster.
 Check your email/junk mail for a generic Department email that states you’ve
successfully enrolled.

Instructor Bio: John Motoviloff is the Wisconsin R3 Specialist for the National Wild Turkey Federation. He runs outdoor-skills programing throughout the Upper Midwest in conjunction with partner groups, and taught at DFS last year. An avid angler, hunter, and forager, he is the author of numerous books on the outdoors including wild food cookbooks. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin, and owns a cabin in the Kickapoo Valley.
