Details - *CLASS CANCELED*

Rotational grazing is the practice of moving livestock frequently from small pasture to small pasture, thereby increasing the beauty and productivity of the land, as well as the health of the livestock and the farmer. Rotational grazing offers the farmer daily exercise, close and harmonious contact with animals, increased soil organic matter and carbon sequestration. This system also provides for maximum biodiversity of plants, animals, birds, and microbial life.

In this class, we will focus on the system for rotationally grazing beef cattle, but will also discuss systems for pigs, chickens, and sheep. We’ll have a chance to move the cows, discuss paddock and fence design, haymaking, animal health, and any other questions the students have. We’ll do some fencing and have a lunch of grass-fed beef tacos. This class will be useful to beginning and experienced graziers.

Instructor:

Lars Bergan has been rotationally grazing beef cows since 2008 and has been farming with wife Corina and boys Elliot and Henry since 2007. He believes strongly in the obligation and delight of raising food to feed family and friends. He has been a farmer, entrepreneur, and teacher, being part of the Driftless Café, Youth Initiative High School, Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School, and Shade Haven.
