Biological Illustration, with Vicki Lynn Ramsey

Beginning this fall, join us each season as we explore the realms of biological illustration. Focusing on the nature found in a single place, we will track the phenological changes across a year's time, meeting once every season. Students will learn techniques for drawing with graphite pencil and pen & ink. We will focus on drawing a variety of natural forms including water, rocks, trees, insects, and small plants. Students will consider details that aid in plant identification, work on proportion and perspective, quality of line, as well as practice shading, cross-hatching, and stippling. At the end of the year, students will have produced a phenological study that incorporates each season into a beautiful and coherent whole.

Dress for the weather! Please bring water and snack.
