Burning Wood for Home Heating, with Julie Tomaro

  • Rural Viroqua, WI (map)

Heating with wood is as old as human history itself, but we have come a long way in the efficiency and effectiveness of heating with wood. In this class, we will cover a wide variety of relevant aspects. From a discussion around wood procurement, fire safety, BTUs, splitting, stacking and storage to ways of supplementing conventional heating or designing a home around a hearth. This is mostly a discussion class but we will get an opportunity to take turns swinging an axe and splitting some wood.

What to bring: A notebook, water, and snack if desired.
