Herbs for Winter Health, with Linda Conroy

Whether you are new to working with herbs or looking to increase your ability to work with plants, this class will provide you with the knowledge you need to incorporate herbs that can promote winter health and address common ailments. Everyone will learn about and make a wide variety of herbal remedies to add to the apothecary. Some of the remedies we will make and cover include an herbal throat spray, elderberry oxymel syrup, herbal tincture, herbal lozenges, sinus steam blends, infused honey, remedies for the skin (salves, lotions and infused oils) and much more. We will also make and taste a variety of herbal tea and infusions that can be easily made at home. How to prepare each herb for optimal benefit will be covered and participants will leave with an extensive handout with recipes and lists of herbs that are ideal to have on hand for winter health.

Instructions: Please bring an apron.

Supporter Level Ticket: $135
If you move through the world with financial ease and the means to fulfill many of your wants as well as your needs – you are able to eat out when you want, abundantly meet your needs through employment or can comfortably not work, have access to family wealth, own property, etc. – consider paying at this level, which will help us ensure the long term sustainability of our programs while keeping our offerings accessible to those with access to fewer resources.

Sustainer Level Ticket: $110
If you are able to meet your needs with relative ease while budgeting your educational and entertainment spending – for instance, you are able to take classes and eat out occasionally as long as you are mindful – consider paying at this level, which will help sustain the work of the Folk School at a modest level.

Supported Level Ticket: $85
If you struggle to fund your basic needs and have limited access to resources in your family and community, or if you would not be able to access this offering without a discounted payment option, consider paying at this level. We value your presence and contributions to our community and do not want any economic circumstances to be a barrier to attendance!

Instructor Bio - Linda Conroy

Linda Conroy is a bioregional herbalist, herbal and traditional food educator and a community organizer. She dedicates her life to connecting with the green world as well as sharing the wisdom of the earth. Her primary mentors are the plants who never cease to instill a sense of awe in her daily life. Linda has a certificate in permaculture design, which she completed through the International Earth Activist Program and has been a student of compassionate nonviolent communication for close to 20 years. Linda has participated in the doula training through the Seattle School of Midwifery and the Midwifery Assistant Program through The Farm Midwives in Tennessee. In addition, she is trained as a Wilderness First Responder. For over a decade Linda has presented well received programs and apprenticeship programs throughout the Pacific Northwest, Midwest as well as other parts of the country. She is the creator of the ever popular Wild Eats Community Meals, Moonwise Herbs, LLC and The Midwest Women's Herbal Conference. Participants in programs facilitated and/or organized by Linda walk away with an appreciation for the natural world as well skills for incorporating plants into their daily life. Linda is a vibrant, passionate woman who continually seeks to deepen her connection to the green world!
