The Black ash basketry class will take participants back to the trees the baskets are woven from, teaching them where to find and how to identify a basket tree. Everyone will have the opportunity and be encouraged to pound (peeling of the basket staves) and be involved in stave preparation (splitting, shaving, and sorting) in order to supply the class with the materials needed to make a basket.

The goal of the class is for everyone to take home their own basket, but the preparation of materials along with how to start a basket will be the focus of the class.
